Black Canyon, Gurney Plaza, Penang

Recommended by a friend and she was full of praises for the food here that I couldn't resist no more. Headed towards the Gurney Plaza's alfresco area, it is situated next to Dome. All I can say that sum up the whole entire post is it is so true! I love it all from thai food to the drinks. The only ones that I have not tried are their western dishes. Stay tune on my MyTold Facebook for more updates.

They offer sets for just RM12.90 for a main dish as such as one below and a mini Thai soup which is more than sufficient for one person. For 4 pax set, you can order dishes at RM49.90.
Combination Stir Fried Prawn with chicken - RM10.90(ala carte)

Pad thai - RM11.90
Tom Yam mee - RM 12.90
Stir Fried Noodle with Chicken - RM9.90

I just love the drinks, they are so tasty, I can't enough of it. It's thick, moist, smells good(coffee beans exudes such a lure). The chocolate frappe was superb as well. Starbucks are overated, be a little open and try new coffee places.
Thumbs up for this one.

Moustache Houze, Campbell St. , Penang

There is something attractive about a moustache drawn this way, brings you back to an old memory lane probably long before our generation. The moment you walk in, the music brings you that feel. Lovin it, cos if I have to hang out in a cafe with music, its important that I have a nice environment and atmosphere.

This place is full of backdrops of moustache art upstairs or accessories for you to add to your fun photography. Do not miss that out if you art or photography.  The concept as explained by the proprietor Catherine that it was intended as a hostel but later it was changed to a cafe. For future updates, check out their
Tree Of Life drawn by Catherine's sister

They serve cakes, crepes,  tea, coffee, fruit juices and ice cubes of different flavours. Have yet to try alot of other things. One thing I exceptionally love is the baked cheese cake (RM 11.90), it melts in the mouth and make you wanting for more.

What to eat, what to eat? A Ben’s Healthy Food Review

Today is the day for a guest blogger to grace my humble blog and may I introduce to you Edith from applesonsticks.com. She is now residing in KL and she would like to share one of her favourite eating places in KL. Being a vegan, Edith explores many vegetarian dishes and healthy choices are of utmost importance to her. Thanks Edith for your wonderful sharing.
What to eat, what to eat? A Ben’s Healthy Food Review
 by Edith

Here’ the deal: you can easily find a Ben’s in almost each mall in KL; on top of that, you can also easily find healthy food on their menus, because healthy food can mean vegetarian food, and in my case, it certainly does. I love vegetarian food, especially after the bad food poisoning experiences I had while working in Malaysia. If you stick through this post, you will love it, too! One of my favorite dishes is the Portobello Mushroom Burger. It’s basically a burger as any other, but instead of a fatty fried meat patty, you get a delicious healthy mushroom patty. It’s absolutely tasty and healthy at the same time – it’s all veggies! It comes with a good dose of fries and a side salad of their tasty salad.

If you’re going for something lighter, you can perhaps try Ben’s House Salad, their signature salad. It’s so genuine that I actually have problems with identifying the dressing! It contains salad, tomatoes, cucumbers, soybeans and nuts. It has a salty and sour dressing which was probably prepared with balsamic vinegar, but other than that, I don’t know. If you prefer to enjoy toast or bread with your salad, you might as well order the garlic bread as a snack to accompany your light salad; otherwise, for a light dinner, it works without the toast as well.

Ben’s, however, is about more than just eating. Their concept is built around the idea that eating is about building relationships, and for that they have the perfect setting. Each table is nicely set and comfortable; in addition, each table comes with a box of conversations starters and recipes. While the recipes are to take, the conversation starters should stay for others to enjoy them, too. But if you find a recipe you like, you take it and try to prepare it at home. However, if you’re on an awkward first date; bumped into an acquaintance by chance and decided to sit at the same table; or you are just out of topics, you are saved! The conversation starters are fun and can potentially reveal forgotten facts about oneself – like ‘What is your first childhood memory?’ or ‘What is the one thing you would do if nobody found out about it?’. Finding out about Ben’s and then slowly getting addicted to it has worked out just fine for me. I was battling with indigestion and food poisoning a lot before I finally realized these things:

Getting to know more about what is good to eat vs what isn’t good to eat in order to avoid tummy issues has been very useful for me; and eating vegetarian at Ben’s has definitely been a part of these changes. Kudos for Ben’s!

Coffee Ink at Bukit Tinggi, Klang

Coffee Ink is the new kid on the block situated at Bukit Tinggi, Klang. As the name suggest, it is a combination of coffee and art. Run by the locals of Klang, the business has been thronged by many since the opening on August 31st, 2013.

Zabedee, one of the co-owners has the talent of the ink and that's him with his artistic piece at floor of the entrance.

A quaint, artistic cafe filled with aromas of coffee attracts people of all walks, I noticed as we walked in. There are quite a variety of cakes/mille crepes and cookies as well to complement your choice of coffee, tea or hot chocolate. Availability of free wifi for all who cant live without their gadgets, a comfortable corner for those who wants to read, and for those with an eye for art can enjoy the beauty of paintings and drawings all around.

Now all about coffee, I had Mocha and it suits me fine, not too bitter, not too sweet. I tried my friends' Latte, Chai latte and The Belgium. The Belgium was outstanding, and as I tried to recall the next best hot chocolate I had before in other cafes, none was comparable, all forgettable. This is Yum!
 Latte
Chai Latte with Chocolate Macadamia Cookie
The Belgium with Apricot Macadamia Cookie

Tiramisu Mille,  The Grand Marnier
I'm just having a feel of reading without my gadget.

With Jocelyn Christmas, sister to one of the co-owner, who unfortunately were not present at that time.

Five 27, Scandinavian Restaurant

As I was saying in the last post, I was going to try the food next at Five 27, the other night was just drinks - previous post

Five27 is  a bistro-lounge with Nordic inspired cuisine serving with local and imported ingredients.  It's also a healthy eating place.

My visit with friends was during a weekend lunch. They have set lunch menu which consist of Soup of The Day, a main meal, dessert and drink  and all this for RM35++.

First they gave us starters from the house, each a piece of their homemade cake-like bread with their own Nordic spread.

Complimentary Starter
Pumpkin Soup
As we finished our starter, here comes the Pumpkin Soup, the Soup of the day and it was on the clear, light side.  I was and am used to thick creamy pumpkin soup but after tasting this, I have to say this is one of the best pumpkin soup ever. It appears to have alfafa and some other garnishing elements in it that made the soup so divine. Unfortunately the server was not able to tell further on the ingredients and the owners were not around.

Baked Cheddar Emerald Fish

This is the fish. It was just alright for me, a pleasant taste. The square cube at the side turns out to be a type of cheese. It is an acquired taste for different individual for sure. At the first mouthful, it took me aback with its tastelessness. Then I took it again, it became slightly better mixed with the fish and all and then towards the end, I couldn't finish it. As I said, it is an acquired taste nevertheless it is not unpleasant.

Iced Lemongrass tea and skyjuices

100% Beef Burger with wedges RM 28
100% Beef Burger was ordered from the Ala Carte menu and the burger came with french fries but I requested for a change to potato wedges. Potato wedges comes with the other pork burger (new in the menu by the way!)
Look at that, it tasted real good with all its topped ingredients. The flower can be eaten too... I added cheese price would have been RM26. The potato wedges is superb, any kid or adult would love it. The seasoning enhanced the whole taste and so are the sauces provided. Tomato and their own original sauce.

Cream brulee
I think I have I mentioned before in my other posts that I love crème brulee so when I saw it in the menu, I have got to try it. It was abit of a letdown. The top that was covered with 'sugar glass' and it was sticky  and the brulee tasted abit eggy. The presentation however was creative as you can see.

Below picture features the time and day different band plays for Five27. I went for Saturday night and I enjoyed the songs sung by Sound of Light.

Drinks at Five27, Straits Quay

This was an after dinner event, we had drinks before the night's over. First time in this Scandinavian restaurant,  we sat outside enjoying the music as the family chatters.

I will return for food tasting next, so this is just a preview of a weekend at Five27. A band was playing that night, didn't get the name but they are impressive enough to catch my attention.
(updated the band name below) Kudos to whoever you, drop me a line of the name of the band if you know it or are it.

Sound of Light live music

Our drinks. The server lady was very nice and helpful. My niece was busy listening to music till was given paper and crayon to draw then she drew till the end.

Get to know Five27 more at their Five27 Facebook page. And stay tune on my next visit there.
