Kith and Kin, Desiaran Vantage,Penang

I may have intended to go to a new restaurant but once I entered I felt I was going to a friend's big dining hall. I suppose I am : ). The first thing that caught my eyes was the portrait of this two cute little ones and then a summary of what Kith and Kin meant for them. If I may take another minute of your time to read what it means in Kith and Kin in Macmillan dictionary.
The portrait of the two kids belong to the proprietors husband and wife Kevin and Celyn. The second thing I noticed is that the interior is spacious and wide, with a corner just for the kiddies to entertain themselves while parents enjoy their meals. Now, this is a plus point they have compared to other cafes.

Another hall of fame in the house as seen in the picture below. The array of family photographs hung on the wall were exquisite and warm altogether. It's cool how they share their lives as part of their business. Thumbs up!

The kiddies play pen
For those who are health conscious - there is NO MSG served in the meals.
The main meals can be converted into a set meal with additional RM6.90 and that includes ice lemon tea, soup and ice cream. If you would like to have coffee on top of that, then just add RM3.90.
The ice lemon tea does not include sugar therefore the little cup of sugar syrup is accompanied to suit your sweetness level.

Aside from the main meal, some of us shared their signature salad. Indeed it's delectable. The orange makes it sweet coupled with some crunchy onions, capsicum, roasted almonds flakes etc.

The Lamb Cutlet is the best so far on this visit. The tenderness of the meat with the mango and mint compote just does it all. The plate was cleaned out so I suppose you know what that means.

The Herb Lemon Butter Baramundi was pleasant with light buttery taste. The fish was fresh and fluff if I could put it in my layman term. There wasn't a strong herb flavor for those who likes it done this way.

Stuffed Chicken is stuffed with mushroom and leek served with side salad and salted egg cream sauce. It sounds unique and it is surprisingly tasty. I would recommend to those who fancy salted egg to give this a try.

Grill Salsa Chicken as the name suggest is tomato based, It is served with mash of the day , sautéed vegetables and homemade salsa.

Here was the last that came for a friend who came later, Grilled Salmon. Also served with mash of the day, sautéed vegetables and lemon honey mustard sauce.

Last but not the least here is Frances with her pasta dish - Smoked Salmon Linguine.

To end the night is the last thing on the set menu is the vanilla ice cream to sweeten our tooth.

With the lady boss, Celyn.
I'm interested to try their sloppy joe burger and their coffees. That will be my next at Kith and Kin restaurant.

Five 27, Scandinavian Restaurant

As I was saying in the last post, I was going to try the food next at Five 27, the other night was just drinks - previous post

Five27 is  a bistro-lounge with Nordic inspired cuisine serving with local and imported ingredients.  It's also a healthy eating place.

My visit with friends was during a weekend lunch. They have set lunch menu which consist of Soup of The Day, a main meal, dessert and drink  and all this for RM35++.

First they gave us starters from the house, each a piece of their homemade cake-like bread with their own Nordic spread.

Complimentary Starter
Pumpkin Soup
As we finished our starter, here comes the Pumpkin Soup, the Soup of the day and it was on the clear, light side.  I was and am used to thick creamy pumpkin soup but after tasting this, I have to say this is one of the best pumpkin soup ever. It appears to have alfafa and some other garnishing elements in it that made the soup so divine. Unfortunately the server was not able to tell further on the ingredients and the owners were not around.

Baked Cheddar Emerald Fish

This is the fish. It was just alright for me, a pleasant taste. The square cube at the side turns out to be a type of cheese. It is an acquired taste for different individual for sure. At the first mouthful, it took me aback with its tastelessness. Then I took it again, it became slightly better mixed with the fish and all and then towards the end, I couldn't finish it. As I said, it is an acquired taste nevertheless it is not unpleasant.

Iced Lemongrass tea and skyjuices

100% Beef Burger with wedges RM 28
100% Beef Burger was ordered from the Ala Carte menu and the burger came with french fries but I requested for a change to potato wedges. Potato wedges comes with the other pork burger (new in the menu by the way!)
Look at that, it tasted real good with all its topped ingredients. The flower can be eaten too... I added cheese price would have been RM26. The potato wedges is superb, any kid or adult would love it. The seasoning enhanced the whole taste and so are the sauces provided. Tomato and their own original sauce.

Cream brulee
I think I have I mentioned before in my other posts that I love crème brulee so when I saw it in the menu, I have got to try it. It was abit of a letdown. The top that was covered with 'sugar glass' and it was sticky  and the brulee tasted abit eggy. The presentation however was creative as you can see.

Below picture features the time and day different band plays for Five27. I went for Saturday night and I enjoyed the songs sung by Sound of Light.

Full Of Beans (Handcrafted Specialty Coffee),Penang

Coffee is almost everyone's cup of tea. It is mine as well but I'm not addicted to it.  I have come to acquire a taste for coffee since I started working in 'American Dream Cafe' in One Stop, Penang (no longer in operation) when I was in secondary school(high school). My ex-boss will bring out this scientific looking thing that drips coffee from a rounded cylinder with coffee beans inside. Starbucks coffee beans was what he was serving certain customers who has a pleasure of a good brewed coffee. No matter where you are in the world, you will have no problem finding a coffee shop right at the streets or an air conditioned cafes or Starbucks.

Have an experience of handcrafted specialty coffee at Full of Beans at Straits Quay , Penang. Recently I went to have a cup of coffee, Brazillian Santos (RM19) is what I had. A complimentary drink actually. Well, the barista was carefully concocting my brew with all the laboratory look-alike equipment, forgive me on the scientific terms because it all just reminds me of my school science lab. What's nice about Brazillian Santos is firstly it's not bitter without sugar however with a cube of sugar that was given, it was more enjoyable to drink. I'm truly a novice all these years when it comes to understanding the different coffee types. I have seen various ways people make coffee (besides the 3 in 1 packets ofcourse) and how they know what temperature would make a good coffee, what equipment to brew different types of coffee beans yet there is a desire to know more. Well I think it would be great to go for the coffee tasting at Full of Beans. See more information at the last picture.

Noor Bee Nasi Melayu(Curry Fish Head)- Tanjung Tokong, Penang

It's been awhile since I came back here but I do enjoy their food. Years ago I've been introduced to this place with lots of delicious varieties and their specialty, curry fish head. It's a wonder where you can find good food at a flat where stall sign cannot be seen unless you are visiting someone there. If you want to beat the crowd, a good time to go is in the morning before 12pm. I went on one Thursday morning, right after visiting a friend with a broken ankle.

Love those curries!
It is welcoming when you have friendly service, like this proprietor here. He is all smiles with a great sense of humor.

Curry Fish Head

Their signature dish , the curry fish head is meaty and the curry is not thick but tasty with very light sweetness. I 'drowned' my whole plate of rice with the curry. A bit of exaggeration there but its close. The curry fish head ranges from RM 25 - RM 30+. Overall pricing is reasonable for the dishes.

Ah.. the 'kopi tarik' is a superb complement bringing it to a complete perfect lunch.

Cheers Restaurant & Bierhaus

Newly opened Cheers, about a month old.

I love words and what caught my attention are all the frames of pictures with positive quotes that are found in this restaurant. Especially when I head upstairs (non-smoking section), there are so many of them and look at the cowboy hat on the wall lamp, a creative idea to make it dimmer and trendy.

My eyes caught sight of the balcony and the trees at the surroundings. Makes me feel I'm in another country and it'd be really nice to have a drink here on a breezy night. Well, time for the food.

We ordered the signature dishes and here is scallopy chicken, a grilled then baked chicken chop. A unique taste apart from most chicken chops I have ever tasted. It is topped with scallops and covered with orange mandarin sauce. Superb combination.

Scallopy Chicken - RM 33.80
My favourite among all is the King Ribs because of its succulent, fleshy meat. It was easy to cut and I do not remember encountering difficult tendons which i normally do elsewhere. Its fusion between oriental and western BBQ sauce brings out a pleasant taste as BBQ sauce alone usually taste close to a tomato paste. And I'm not a fan of BBQ sauce and am pretty particular with it. I do fancy the sweet mashed potato as well, both served with the King Ribs and Scallopy Chicken.
King Ribs - RM31.80
My first time having a seafood burger, more like having a bite on it. My friend was in the mood for burger and she enjoyed this to her very last bite including the fries. If you are wondering what type of seafood it has all packed in, let me write it out loud :- minced prawn, salmon, dory and scallop. Try it!

Homemade Seafood Burger - RM 25.80
Cake of The Day (Cotton Cheese Cake with ice cream) - RM 10.80
Feasting!!!
Served by very friendly servers with Mun, the lady manager 2nd from the right
For those who are dining would go on the upper level and the drinkers will stay down at the bar and if you would like a game of darts, it is on the left as you walk through the door. There are also ample parking space and a private room that customers can use for celebrations and etc.

Not bad eh..
