Little Nyonya Cuisine, Gurney Plaza

James, the owner of Little Nyonya Cuisine currently has three outlets, right where we were was at Gurney Plaza and the other two respectively at Bukit Jambul and Queensbay Mall.  This particular day is a meeting between my sister and James and food tasting agenda.

There might be a future fourth outlet in KL Pavilion Mall. You are one of the first to hear it. But until that truly comes to pass, let's enjoy the Penang outlets first. Most times when I'm in Gurney Plaza, its rare for me to see alot of empty tables, even on some weekdays. Weekend crowds throng this eatery, definitely a heavy traffic area.

There are wide varieties in their menu,  ranging from dishes for group eating to standalone rice/noodles for one person.

My most likeable dishes are arranged from top to bottom.
(Desserts excluded)

Assam Koh Prawns

Sambal Kacang Botol (Four Angle Beans)
Beancurd
Inche Kabin

Ju Hu Char

Ikan pari

Mua Yu Chicken

Beef and Mutton Satay
Cendol

If you like cendol, I would recommend this. Sweet as usual but not overbearing.  'gula melaka' is used unlike some outlets, they use brown sugar. I'm not much of a cendol, ice kacang fan but the rest who ate it seems to enjoy it.

Ben's at Gurney Paragon

Introducing Ben's Kitchen, Penang managed under The Big Group also known as Ben's Independent Group

A long awaited visit finally come to pass in one of the birthday celebration we had a few months ago.  Overdue post, I know! Better late than never.

Here it is, Ben's located at Gurney Paragon which is next to G Hotel. Here's some pictures of the ambience and all taken using Samsung Note 2 •

One of the tortilla dish and sadly the content was not too fresh and the supervisor was kind enough to replace it with Deconstructed Thai Beef Salad which was very appetizing indeed. Thanks for the recommendation, Derrick.

Deconstructed Thai Beef  Salad - Rm26.90

We all love the Pad Thai Linguine, the chili was an incredible mix that made it sweet and spicy. Highly recommended.
Pad Thai Linguine - Rm22.90
We also had Pie Wagyu Beef as well as Pie Moroccan Lamb however in my opinion, once you had a taste of  Pie Wagyu Beef, there is no point having the Moroccan Lamb.
Wagyu Beef Pie (Rm 25.90) on the left.
Pie Moroccan Lamb (Rm 29.90)
Here comes our dessert, Choc Truffle Torte with a glass of milk. A lovely combination, literally craving for this as I blog.

Choc Truffle Torte - Rm11.90
They have table card games, question cards to be exact like the one below- for conversation starters and its great having those around for some interesting topics to get to know your friends.

The servers were very patient with our antics and demands, therefore they were given a good report. It's nice of us, isn't it?

Morganfields, Gurney Paragon, Penang

Copyrights of Morganfields
Morganfield stands at a strategic position at Gurney Paragon and this American restaurant serves western food from appetizers to steaks, salads, burgers and their signature dish ~ Pork Ribs, the sticky bones!

They have an array of wines for you to pick with your meal and music to accompany and lighten up your day. With the jukebox playing on and on, it makes my food experience more enhanced. Service was a little slow unfortunately but everything else was great.

This is their signature dish, the Sticky bones and without a doubt its delicious. It is RM 68.90 for a full rack.  It is served with the spicy flavour of black pepper, red skin mash potato and some fresh garden salad.
Smoked Peppercorn Spare Ribs(Half Rack) - RM38.90
Chicken Roulade is a meal consisting of chicken thigh stuffed with sausage wrapped with bacon served with red skin mashed potatoes, garden veggies and pommery mustard sauce. An interesting taste to it however I prefer to share this dish with friends or it can become a bit overwhelming. While eating just two will leave you satisfied, eating all will have you feel otherwise.
Chicken Roulade - RM 32.90
Time for desserts and one of our pick for today is Bread Pudding served warm with vanilla ice cream and whiskey sauce. Sweet tooth lovers will love it.
Bread Pudding -  RM12.90
Chocolate Lava cake is rich in its chocolate cream, tasty as it is moist and complete with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce. Surely as the name says, the lava oozes out temptingly to the plate. One will be satiated after having a go at this dessert.
Chocolate Lava Cake - RM 14.90

Refreshing drinks like Lipstick - RM 14.90, Virgin Apple Mojito - RM 13.90

Milkshake Factory Cafe at Gurney Plaza, Penang

It is so pink but somehow it suited the cafe, reminds me of the movie Charlie and His chocolate factory. Definitely not a eyesore, children will love it and those attracted to bright colors. Interior designing aside, the milkshake was not a disappointment. After a day of shopping, it is nice just to sit down and enjoy a cup. Though I would prefer if the outlet was outdoor near the alfresco dining area so that I can enjoy a better view, taking my time resting in milkshake bliss. O well, that's me.
Look at that!

Chop chop & get free shake!
Oreos - RM 9.80(L)
Lisbon - RM 11.80 (L)
Imagine a shop like this started with just a bunch of youngsters who had an idea of throwing all sorts of chocolates and cereals in the blender , and what else they find in their mother's kitchen then crafted their own personal recipes. No they didn't just stop there, they turned it into a business plan. I marvel at these entrepreneurs, thumbs up!
I just read they have superb sandwiches, I gotta try it! :)

Buffet lunch at Evergreen Laurel Hotel, Penang

This post is actually a continuation from my Sue-World blog post Wong Shuenda with Trinity College London. I'm not doing a food review but sharing what I had in a buffet at Evergreen Laurel Hotel when I was there for a teachers seminar. This is the start of my lunch meal, fruit first then salad. A good start as the salad was fresh, love the alfalfas.
Fruit & Salad - for starters
Then here comes my main meal. It was alright overall, nothing spectacular. I believe I enjoyed my salad and dessert the most.

Here it is, my long awaiting desserts. I only remembered one type of cake I do not like , other than that, all's great. Added vanilla ice cream to my double moist chocolate cake(that was the best).

Like I said, love the salad, so I returned with more of it, adding some meat to it too. The latte was by the way excellent too.

the dessert table.

Check out more on their buffets OR check out on the accomodation if you want to visit Penang. It's pretty reasonable and you will have a great seaview too:) ~ http://www.evergreenhotel.net/

Brussels Beer Cafe at Gurney Paragon

My taste has traveled far to Korea, Japan, German, Italy and now to Belgium however my body never left Penang, Malaysia. To be specific, I was at Gurney Paragon sitting comfortably at a high chair in Brussels Beer Cafe having a taste of Belgium is more like it. They have such a wide variety in their menu and it is also noted which dish has beer in its dishes. I browsed and decided on Chicken Waterzoo, as it sounded interesting. And I kind of liked it, its soup is pleasant and with the rye bread, everything just went well together and definitely fills my tummy nicely.  We all shared the Grimbergen mussels and it was truly fresh and tasty. I must say its worth the price and its reasonable. It comes with garlic bread, I wondered why the combination but I never asked. Curiosity aside, the creme brulee was indeed excellent mm..mmm. The portion was small for the pork chop though and that left my friend with a frown. Not recommended for hungry ones but only for very petite eaters. Other dishes tasted sort of plain and normal. Nothing to be loud about...

Liege Salad - RM16.80
Brussels Pasta(Spaghetti) - RM 22.80
Mini Fish and Chips - RM13.80
Grimbergen Mussels - RM25.80

Chicken Waterzoo - RM 25.80
Pork Chop - RM28.80
Cream Brulee - RM9.80

After a scrumptious meal, its time for a walk and that's when I learned a thing or two about the history before Gurney Paragon. The evening ended with some colourful water in our midst. Find out more at Sue-World: A Night at Gurney Paragon
