Secret Recipe 15th Anniversary

This is the first time I lined up for some promotional offers(knowing that it would be a long queue), be it retail or food. One morning, I found myself among these people at Secret Recipe, Gurney Plaza. I was early so it wasn't a long wait or I would probably scoot off.

Secret Recipe has been known for its delicious cakes, especially its cheese cake in my opinion. In conjunction with its 15th Anniversary, Secret Recipe is offering 'Buy 1 Free 1 Marble cake' And here is my line when I first reached.....

Getting closer to the counter......

Loads of boxes coming in and the manager and staff are busy unpacking and repacking the cake into their signature Secret Recipe boxes.

It was so cute of the staff to say thank you to me when I asked them to write 'I Love Secret Recipe' on one of the cake. Such appreciative person (first from the left).

Apparently, I was the 40th person to purchase the marble cheese cake. When I came at 10.50am, it felt like the crowd was around less than 30. Service was quite prompt and it would have been faster if customers made payment with cash.

"Time for the opening...can't wait to sink my teeth in"

Finally.......

Love the cheese melting in my mouth, the sweetness was accurately right for me. Hooray!!!

Sushi Tei, Gurney Plaza, Penang

I suppose by now you would know I'm a Japanese food fan. This was my next stop, Sushi Tei restaurant at Gurney Plaza that faces Gurney Drive. I love the interior design, shiny glasses in abstract forms. The servers are ever ready to be at your service and one of the servers gave a good recommendation making one of it the best dish of the evening. Which one is it?

Everything we had has been fresh and appetizing, the pictures below are from a few visits to Sushi Tei, from simple meals to a birthday event. There are some that I am not able to provide pricing or name details due to unforeseen circumstances. Not to worry, most of it are here.
Kani Avacado Salad - RM14.80
Gyu Misoyaki (Beef) - RM15.00
Sushi Tei has this menu where you have combo choices to add on to your main meal of your choice.  Pretty good deal however the add ons are smaller in portion. At least there is a variety for the big eaters as well as the petite ones.
Salad Add-On
Chawan Mushi Add-On
Beef Sliced Teriyaki Steak - RM16.80
Salmon Sashimi - RM10.80
Kani Avacado Salad - RM14.80
There it is, the best dish of the night. It was so fresh and the meat of the prawn is so tasty not to mention the sauce added to it gives an extra oomph to it. If you do not like sweet dishes, this is not really for you, however anything might change the moment it enters a persons mouth.:)

Ebi Mentaiyaki - RM19.80
Inari Kani Mentai Mayo with cod roe - RM5.80
Tuna
The ramen dish was fantastic and the soup draws you back with each slurp. My niece could not get enough of it. Towards the end of the bowl, my sister pulled up a ramen with a knot, how rare is that? And my friend asked me if I made the knot myself, what a laugh, she could not believed I came across it.

Look at this scrumptious temptation ~ Strawberry Cheese Cake (not sold in Sushi Tei).
Overall, Sushi Tei is highly recommended, your money's worth! My tummy is sated to my heart's content. This is my TOLD!

Milkshake Factory Cafe at Gurney Plaza, Penang

It is so pink but somehow it suited the cafe, reminds me of the movie Charlie and His chocolate factory. Definitely not a eyesore, children will love it and those attracted to bright colors. Interior designing aside, the milkshake was not a disappointment. After a day of shopping, it is nice just to sit down and enjoy a cup. Though I would prefer if the outlet was outdoor near the alfresco dining area so that I can enjoy a better view, taking my time resting in milkshake bliss. O well, that's me.
Look at that!

Chop chop & get free shake!
Oreos - RM 9.80(L)
Lisbon - RM 11.80 (L)
Imagine a shop like this started with just a bunch of youngsters who had an idea of throwing all sorts of chocolates and cereals in the blender , and what else they find in their mother's kitchen then crafted their own personal recipes. No they didn't just stop there, they turned it into a business plan. I marvel at these entrepreneurs, thumbs up!
I just read they have superb sandwiches, I gotta try it! :)

Chicago Ribs at Gurney Plaza

The city of steaks and ribs named Chicago Ribs is at Gurney Plaza. The Chicago Rib House new menu contains some interesting new dishes such as their Grilled Cod, Seafood Pasta, Grilled Salmon, 10oz Wagyu Ribeye Steak, Tortilla Salad and a Chocolate Mud Pie dessert amongst many others.
100% satisfaction it says...
We got ourselves a comfortable corner and begin ordering with the help of a waitress who seemed a bit pushy towards to her suggestion rather than being interested in our wants. You know it when you've been served well and not. Somehow after the first order, another guy came to serve us and he seem to have our best interest in mind.
1/2 Rack Ribs with Bourbon Sauce - RM 38.90
Laura had her Flaming sauce ribs while the other two had their ribs with Bourbon sauce. I much preferred the Bourbon sauce . Our only complain is that the sauce was not enough and if we wanted a bit more, we have to pay RM 6 for it. Sigh...I didn't think that was really necessary. However, the ribs is delicious and I would return to eat this again. The (side dish) baked potato with sour cream has a nice texture to it. Our main meals comes with two side dishes of our choice and so far it was all good.
I highly recommend the rib-eye steak(medium well) as it was tender and easy to cut. It was juicy yet well cooked making the steak tasty and of course it went well with its sauce. They gave a generous portion of fresh vegetable with the majority being broccoli.
Ribeye Steak(10oz) - RM49.90
Laura enjoying her flaming ribs, clean bones left with side dishes yet to finish. :)

Bar.B.Q Plaza at Gurney Plaza

Bar B Q plaza is said to be a Self-Cooking Mongolia-Japanese Style Barbecue Restaurant first started in Central Ladprao and now after so many subsequent branches, it has now landed in Gurney Plaza (LG near food court). This is my first time stepping into it after strolling pass numerous times. It was a birthday lunch celebrated for Yong Anne (see below).
Look at the choices!
The start of our self cooking experience.

There were lots of white cabbages left and we dump it all in for the finishing. I love the barbeque sauce that goes with everything. It's a great place for families and friends to have a meal over cooking and chit chat away without a care of the time. The rest is upon your own preferences and discretion of taste.

Here is the birthday girl with a cute bunny cake from Jenny cakehouse.

Chatime, Gurney Plaza, Penang

Chatime has been a hit with the public for how long I cannot recall but I have no particular desire of trying the drink with jelly balls inside. I just don’t get it. Why are people lining up in long queues for it or what is so great about it? I drank once but it was not from Chatime, it tasted very normal to me with the jelly or as referred to as pearls. The ravings soon got its stint on me and the day Chatime opened in Gurney Plaza, one of my frequent shopping complexes, I decided to try it. We bought two flavours to compare, one was on the recommended list and the other is a new flavour.
I called on my friends to model with the drinks.
Top:Taiwan Mango Juice, Bottom: Banana Choco Smoothie(new flavour)

My verdict between the two is mango flavour, it tasted real good together with the pearls. They are additional perks of flavour. As for banana choco , I needed time to acquire the taste but it ain’t so bad.Mango cost RM6.90 inclusive of RM 1 for the pearls, Banana choco smoothie is RM12.90 additional RM1 for the pearls.
I read in Timothy Tiah's blog on how Chatime started so here it is:
The story goes that this guy’s father asked him what he wanted to do. So he said “Give me a million bucks and I’ll grow it for you”.
The father did… and so he went for a holiday in Taiwan and visited this franchise exhibition. That was the first time he heard about Cha Time and he decided to bring the franchise to Malaysia. He came back and started 2 shops and within a month the franchise in Malaysia has grown to over 25 shops. Some of the shops are owned by him and some, by other franchisees.

Xuan Xin Restaurant at Gurney Plaza

The owner of Xuan Xin Restaurant and Xuan Xin Steamboat Buffet at Tanjung Bungah is known to be the same. I have not tried the latter, only the one at Gurney Plaza, 2nd floor, right next to Sakae Sushi.

We were busy settling in and ordering the dishes as you can see. My sister has been here a few times so she did the ordering while I was busy taking photos as usual. Drinks came first and how the colors attracted my shutters that I've got to stop anyone from drinking till I finish snapping the picture. There was the blue ice drink and the rest are fruit juices of many kinds.

Here are all the dishes we had for the lunch. Due to a small miscommunication, we ended up with two types of taufu but it is alright, both were pleasantly tasty. I liked the prawn dish, the 12 pieces of pork(Sioh Bak) and the vegetable dish the most.

Here is my small dumpling which my sister commented that the one in Dragon I is better(just for extra information). Just remember to let the juice leak out in your mouth and not out of it 'cos that is just the way to eat it. *smile*

So if you want to celebrate birthdays or have a reunion, this section is great for some private party. There are only two table with 10 seatings with a nice view facing the G hotel area. The bill for our lunch this day was around RM 200, thanks to my eldest sis for the treat. And a happy birthday to my dad! :)
Hailed from Hong Kong - not my nieces but the Kitty Kats dresses. Cute eh?
