Coffee Elements, All Seasons, Penang

Coffee Elements is not a new face in Penang and it is still going on strong . The recent good news I heard from one of the proprietor is that Coffee Element is going to open another outlet in Kuala Lumpur, the first over there. In Penang, there are existing two outlets, one in All Seasons, Air Itam and another in Gurney Paragon, Gurney Drive.(info at the bottom)

A refreshing drink to begin with and a healthy one indeed.I couldn't help but remove some of the minty leaves to eat with my dish too. And then we had a big portion of salad. Fresh and crisp leafy vegetables coupled with cherry tomatoes and olives. Balsamic olive oil dressing is best to go with salad for me instead of the usual thousand island dressing. Thumbs up to Coffee Element for giving us the option.

Rocket Salad

Honey Mustard Chicken and Chicken with Cream Mushroom are highly recommended. First of all, I liked that they serve with lots of fresh salads at the side in both the dishes. The Honey Mustard Chicken is crispy and tender on the inside. It goes well with the honey mustard sauce. The chicken thigh of the Chicken with mushroom cream is tasty to the core. And the citrus taste of the orange cubes with the salad is complementing and makes it all very whole for me.

Cream Chicken(Chicken Thigh)
Cakes are all freshly baked homemade and there are around 3 choices to choose from. I have tried quite abit of their coffee selections except the cold ones. The hot ones like latte, flavored latte and mocha and also the chocolate drinks are enjoyable. You might see more when you visit my blog's facebook page. And I usually go to Coffee Element, Gurney Paragon as its more convenient for me, but hopefully one day they will have the same food selections too in Paragon.
Cafe Latte

So happy to have achieved this design of my mocha, I was being very careful to sip it slow. I just love looking at beautiful things in whatever form it might be.
Mocha
I'm not a science stream student but that looks like some equations of some kind in the picture below. Can anyone tell me what does it equate to? Or am I just entirely mistaken.

Drop by their Coffee Element Facebook for latest updates. It's a good place for gatherings and parties too.

Eighty Eight Restaurant, Penang

It's been quite awhile that I have wanted to try this place. My ex-piano student used to work there as one of the assistants in the kitchen and I heard great feedback about it.
The Eighty Eight Restaurant that was previously located at Kelawai Road has moved (address at the end of the post). The ambiance and setting of the restaurant is classy yet quaint.
Look out for the flower signboard 'cos the word Eighty Eight is tiny when you are driving.

Carrot Soup
The soup was creamy and tasty. I put a little pepper to spice it up to my liking. Clams was the entree dish and it was really good, wish there was more. I could slurp up the entire bowl if I want to.(but no I did not, its fine dining ;  ))
Clams
The main dish was Paprika Chicken. The chicken was soft, tender, a little burnt on the skin but no worries. It was fairly good. The beef steak however is commendable. Tender, juicy , cooked just right and the accompanied potato was delicious. Though the price was a tad bit high but for a fine dining setting, its to be expected.

Paprika Chicken
Beef Steak
As for the drink, I chose coffee over tea and it was made by the Coffee Lane crew. Excellent for those who are into siphon type of coffee. I took half without milk and the rest with milk. Just for fun. By the way, Coffee Lane has a new premise at the end of the restaurant. A cosy corner for those who are interested in quality coffee. I used to go a few times when it was at its previous venue.
For Eighty Eight ,If you like to order extra drinks, you can order from the drinks menu. Sky juice is charged at RM 1.00 but its refillable so that's good.
Black Coffee
And the finale of the list is Raspberry Parfait,a frozen dessert with chocolate syrup and chocolate biscuit crush making the sourness from the raspberry more delicious.

Bountiful Kitchen, Pulau Tikus

Bountiful Kitchen is a restaurant serving Northen Indian and Western Cuisines. Tucked in between houses at Jones Road, one might miss it if they are not actually looking for it.

One rainy afternoon,  I decided to walk to a birthday lunch from a distance of 10 minutes away. It was a public holiday and the traffic was as slow as a tortoise. And I was also famished.

There are quite a number of selections to pick from and all the dishes in the pictures shown below was so tasty I felt there wasn't a point for me to write specifically on each dish. If its your first time, pick chef's recommendations to taste the best from the chef.

A peek to a few dishes in the menus
The umbrella you see in the picture below belongs to me. I was so concerned that someone might steal or exchange it(it happened elsewhere before) that I actually did forget to take it back due to distractions that's not worth mentioning, haha! But Chef Raj's wife was so kind to keep for me till I came back to collect it a few days later.

Chef Raj is a former chef from G Hotel and have won numerous awards.

Gala House Restaurant and Cafe, Penang

This 6 month old cafe is making quite an impression. For me at least. For my first visit, it impressed me to say Gala House gives a top notch quality service and food. I had very little breakfast and had done quite abit of walking in the morning, lunch was something I really looked forward to and I am so glad we came to the right place.

We were greeted with friendly faces and helpful services throughout our meal. I wanted a hearty and healthy meal so I ordered their Ceasar salad and tomato soup.  The roasted tomato soup is a recipe of a grand nanny of one of the owners. I have never been a fan of tomato soup or tomato puree etc. I liked it very much to my surprise. Next came the Ceasar Salad,  fresh and up to my expectations.
Gala's Roasted Tomato Soup - RM14.90
Ceasar Salad RM 16.90
Cookie Crush as the name suggests has cookies crumbles almost like powder in the espresso with a tinge of vanilla flavour.
Cookie Crush - RM 14.90
Dalmatian 101 is a vanilla latte topped with chocolate chips. Both were excellent. Will be back to try others.
Dalmatian 101 - RM 15.90
A kind server who is alert and attentive to customer's needs.Thumbs up!
For those who like Nandos, you would love this more. 2 to 3 person can share this dish.

House Roast Chicken
I have to try every tiramisu I see in every restaurant that has it.  This one is with Kahlua.  Nice. I don't mind it but it will be good to be given an option with or without Kahlua for those who are not for alcohol.

Five 27, Scandinavian Restaurant

As I was saying in the last post, I was going to try the food next at Five 27, the other night was just drinks - previous post

Five27 is  a bistro-lounge with Nordic inspired cuisine serving with local and imported ingredients.  It's also a healthy eating place.

My visit with friends was during a weekend lunch. They have set lunch menu which consist of Soup of The Day, a main meal, dessert and drink  and all this for RM35++.

First they gave us starters from the house, each a piece of their homemade cake-like bread with their own Nordic spread.

Complimentary Starter
Pumpkin Soup
As we finished our starter, here comes the Pumpkin Soup, the Soup of the day and it was on the clear, light side.  I was and am used to thick creamy pumpkin soup but after tasting this, I have to say this is one of the best pumpkin soup ever. It appears to have alfafa and some other garnishing elements in it that made the soup so divine. Unfortunately the server was not able to tell further on the ingredients and the owners were not around.

Baked Cheddar Emerald Fish

This is the fish. It was just alright for me, a pleasant taste. The square cube at the side turns out to be a type of cheese. It is an acquired taste for different individual for sure. At the first mouthful, it took me aback with its tastelessness. Then I took it again, it became slightly better mixed with the fish and all and then towards the end, I couldn't finish it. As I said, it is an acquired taste nevertheless it is not unpleasant.

Iced Lemongrass tea and skyjuices

100% Beef Burger with wedges RM 28
100% Beef Burger was ordered from the Ala Carte menu and the burger came with french fries but I requested for a change to potato wedges. Potato wedges comes with the other pork burger (new in the menu by the way!)
Look at that, it tasted real good with all its topped ingredients. The flower can be eaten too... I added cheese price would have been RM26. The potato wedges is superb, any kid or adult would love it. The seasoning enhanced the whole taste and so are the sauces provided. Tomato and their own original sauce.

Cream brulee
I think I have I mentioned before in my other posts that I love crème brulee so when I saw it in the menu, I have got to try it. It was abit of a letdown. The top that was covered with 'sugar glass' and it was sticky  and the brulee tasted abit eggy. The presentation however was creative as you can see.

Below picture features the time and day different band plays for Five27. I went for Saturday night and I enjoyed the songs sung by Sound of Light.
