Yeh Lai Ong Restaurant, Ipoh, Perak

The pictures were taken last year before the thought of a food blog came about. My attention fell upon these pictures and memories of how it tasted came to mind. This was not intended for food blogging or was it an invited review so I am not able to give you much details, but I will try my best with google. :) So here are the dishes ordered:
Japanese Tauhu
I remembered the sauce being not too starchy like some that I have tasted before. It was just perfect and nothing more.
Asparagus with prawns
The portion was kind of small as I remembered but it's really nice and makes you want more. It was cooked just right and all the vegetables tasted fresh.
Fish - I can't remember the details.
The fish was fresh and the sauce really goes with it but the next time I go, I will try the steamed fish. I saw it being served at another table and it looks so inviting. Once again my favourite coriander adds to the blissful taste.
Sesame Chicken
The sesame chicken seems pleasant and I have no qualms about it. There's nothing really special or unique about the dish however all I can say is it tasted nice. As you can see below, not only were we famished but it surely whetted our appetite nicely. The bill as I vaguely recall, it was reasonable. So my recommendation to you to drop in while you are in Ipoh. I googled about this place and there was not alot of information on this place but manage to dig out that it is somewhere in Jalan Merpati, and some other recommended dishes commented by someone are salted egg crabs, specialty fried noodles, steamed white pomfret and seafood.
Satisfied Customers!!!
This is a picture taken as we left. So readers from Ipoh if you could give us more information on how to get there etcetra, feel free to share.

Homemade Orange Cheesecake

What do you see when you look at the picture? A round jelly with hidden mandarin orange inside?
Well, what you see here is an Orange Cheesecake, answer is at the title anyway :P. The top layer is the jelly, covering the cheesecake and its biscuit crust. This is delicious because of it's richness in cheese( good quality cheese by the way) and though the mandarin orange is optional, the combination tasted one of its kind. If you would like to order this cake, do drop me a comment ,we'll get in touch and I will know just who to call. Also, it is only delivered within Penang state.

Beng Chin Garden,Air Itam,Penang

Enjoying a morning walk is not complete without food. Typical Penangite!
After a long walk and admiring the sceneries at Air Itam dam, we decided to try breakfast at the coffee shop right infront of the parking lot on the road called Jalan Pasar. 'Pasar' is a malay word for Market. It's just walking distance to the market from where we are.

Koay Teow Th'ng was absolutely fabulous. I normally eat it when I am not so well but I would not mind ordering this again. The ingredients was just enough to satisfy me and I suppose most people. Go for it!
Koay Teow Th'ng - RM 3.00
Curry Mee was also tasty and had alot of ingredients in it. Instead of prawns which I normally get in my curry mee, this came with jelly fish instead. I do not eat blood but the aunty heard me wrong and put it in as well. She was kind to bring me an empty bowl after I corrected her though. Great service!
Curry Mee - RM 3.00
Next in line is Char Koay Teow, looks good but the taste is beyond good. Sadly it was rather bland and oily. Maybe a cook's bad day? Just a benefit of the doubt.
Char Koay Teow - RM 3.80
For those who like malaysian 'kuih-muih', try this Chai Tau Kueh which is fried carrot cake and steamed carrot cake in English.A nice dessert to end the meal.
Chai Tau Kueh - Around RM 3.00
And so is this though I would prefer not having the peanut to be apart of it. Guang Chiang as described by the lady seller is her creation of turnips, carrots, peanuts and yam all in one. It's just alright for me.
Guang Chiang - RM 0.80 (1pc)
Jalan Pasar, Air Itam
Air Itam Dam & the Beautiful Sun
Try doing what we did, have a nice stroll at Air Itam Dam just up ahead the road heading towards Kek Lok Si Temple, then come down and have breakfast. If you have tried other food besides mine at this place or somewhere nearby, please do leave a comment and share right here at Tasting Out Loud.

Edo Ichi Japanese at Island Plaza, Tanjung Tokong , Penang

Edo Ichi Japanese Cuisine gave me a good impression and a lasting tender taste. Why a tender taste? It's hard to describe the feeling but The Nishiki Shakana which consist of Salmon and Codfish has a soft tender texture as you bite into it. Coupled with the lemon taste and sweet sauce, I just love it. You should try it though it is expensive for the size of it.

Nishiki Shakana - RM 30
The Sushi and Chicken Teriyaki set is nice as well though nothing extravagant about it. It does not come with a bowl of rice which we typically have but serves with sushi. I kind of like the idea afterall, sushi has rice too. The salad in the set is fresh and tasty and one of my favourite chawan mushi is included too.
Sushi and Chicken Teriyaki Set - RM 38
The Una Cheese Maki is a simply must-try. You have to like unagi and cheese ofcourse so you will get a fantastic combination taste in your mouth. Nothing more to describe, love it!
Una Cheese Maki - RM 28
I missed out the picture of the garlic rice and needless to say there is nothing much to miss about it either. It's just alright  , nothing less and nothing more.
This is our bill for the night.
One thing for sure the ambience is cosy and inviting and i love the ball-wired lighting, sublime. Kudos to my sis who picked the right choice of food that night. So Readers, let me know if you've tasted anything else that is recommendable at Edo Ichi, that could be next for my second time.

Fruuze Frozen Yogurt at Straits Quay, Penang

Mango flavour with Choc/Color Sprinklers & Blueberry Flavour with Pecan Granola/Dragonfruit
Great place to be to chill out and enjoy some pleasantries in many colors and tastes. They have four flavours - Original, Mango, Blueberry and Green Tea.I enjoyed my blueberry flavor though its abit sourish but tasted great with the pecans granola so you get sweet and sour all in one. My friend's mango flavour is sweet, definitely a choice for most people, very pleasant indeed. I felt the price abit weeny high for the scoop we get. I've read about J.Co's frozen yogurt review that its nicer than Fruuze. To each it's own specialty. No regrets for me. So why don't you cruise over and have a fruuze!!

SOHO Free House,Penang

Old Style Shepherds Pie - RM13.50
Roasted Herbal Chicken - RM 13.50
Roasted Beef - Today's Special - RM 22
Bangers n Mash - RM 13.50
Caesar's Salad- RM 8

English cuisine from SOHO, Penang is delish. Feeling abit dingy as we walk through the door and barely anyone there, we managed to find a cosy area to dine.
My best pick from all that we had is Old Style Shepherd's Pie. Cutting it was a breeze, the texture is soft yet it does not break easily. The lamb stuffed with the crust tasted unbelievably delicious.
My second pick would be from the Today's Special Menu , Roasted Beef. It was tender and juicy, that's how I like it however the portion is a tad too small for me. The bun that you see right there has a different taste that I'm not used to.
Caesar Salad has a cheesy taste that's quite overwhelming from the first bite but overall it was good. The different ingredients complemented one another.
Roasted Herbal Chicken and Bangers & Mash seems rather normal though the big sausage suits my taste just fine but not worth the price. Nothing to shout about much.
We had a talk with the chef, not sure who to expect but here comes Mr.Chong, our very own local man who cooks great English food. We gave our complements and thanks to the chef for doing such a good job. i forgot to asked him why the food took quite long to arrive  'cos even after we finished a game of pool, it did not arrived till 5 minutes later after that. On a day where there's barely a soul and we were the first for lunch.

Conclusion: They will definitely see me again because I love the Shepherd's Pie. Oh yes, there are also the taxes 10% + 6% charges for your information.

Koi Japanese, Gurney Plaza

I've been there 3 times within less than 2 months, i think? So sink your teeth in on your favourite sushi, drop in to Koi Japanese at 2nd Floor New Wing. Let me introduce to you the person behind this wonderful place, Daisy & her husband who are the owners but he is not present in this picture however the ones who brought the creative daughter in to the world are Mr. & Mrs Lee, parents of Daisy Lee.
Next is the chef, food designer who was telling us about the bentos and his recommended dishes. The picture to his left is the 'sushi maker' - probably not the right term for it :). There are 7 chefs inside the kitchen preparing their best, WOW!

Food is fantastic, I have not enjoyed Japanese food in a long while now and I've tried alot. And the service is superb, comfortable seating, nice view of the G Hotel area if you sit by the window. You've just got to try it to know it. I would love to describe to you the taste but I'm not gonna do that. You've got to taste it yourself to see which suits you.
I've tried more but I can't post it all up and sorry for the poor picture lighting buts thanks to my 8MP W995 for the help that I can get for that day. It was so unfortunate I didn't bring my camera but this will do. Wanna know more go to their facebook Koi Japanese Gurney Plaza Facebook . Have a better view of the pictures there. :)

The Wasabi IceCream is uniquely tasty, don't worry, it wont bite nor burn ya. The salmons are fresh and delicious too and by the way the names in the picture might not be accurate but it gives you the idea.
Thanks Daisy for all the delish recommendations, see ya around!

Hai Wei Seafood, Leisure Cove

Last night a group of us went for a scrumptious dinner at Hai Wei Seafood Restaurant situated within Leisure Cove, Tanjung Bungah (Behind Tg Bunga Police Station/Tejani Clinic). It was around RM18 per person for the meal we had. That's not too bad. I enjoyed all the dishes served except for the tofu dish, didnt quite meet my taste. We were served with complimentary plate of watermelon which i didnt snap a photo of it. Well, you all know how slices of watermelon looks like...need I show?:)

Turns out, this place belongs to my senior's ( in secondary school) mom Sally Loi.
I'm surprised many Penang / Malaysia food bloggers have not reviewed this place. I'm waiting for more delicious pictures to be posted by foodie bloggers. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for people who likes chinese cuisine.
