Santorini Cafe, Penang

Santorini is an island in Greece, a destination I would like to add to my Trip Advisor - places I have visited however untill that dream come true, I would settle for Santorini Cafe in Penang.

They have set lunch as well as set dinner. We were there for a birthday celebration dinner and we were spoiled for choice. I went with the signature dish explained further below.

The ice lemon tea is part of the set when you add RM5 in addition to your main Western meal. Mushroom soup is also part of the deal.

Coffee Chicken Chop – RM13.90, this dish is a fusion western style. The batter had been mixed with some coffee powder and applied on to the chicken thigh before it was brought to the pan to be deep fried. It was placed on top of potato wedges, roman lettuce and pickled olive slices. It was then served together with some mayonnaise sauce. The aroma of the coffee was very strong which made this signature dish very unique. The coffee taste blended very well with the chicken and was very appetizing. I'm just going to feature this dish only as it is my favourite.

Biasness aside, here's the rest of my friends meals. Basically the main dish prices are mainly below RM20.

This was the dessert that came with the set - ice cream.

One of The Santorini Proprietor.
She was nice to give the birthday lady this simple nice designed dessert, ice cream with cherries.

A home baked marble cake and an exquisite white moscato wine to end the evening.

Besides that, there is also a tatami dining area for those who love a Japanese dining experience
at Santorini Cafe.

O'Briens Irish Sandwich, Penang

I discovered something better than Subway, though no offence to Subway who serves healthy meals each day. My personal preference for fast sandwich buy goes out to O'Briens Irish Sandwich.

It is situated opposite Queensbay Mall, along the shop lots at the ground floor. Cosy, quaint little place for  healthy eaters to grab their favourite sandwich. I took a look at the menu on the board and wanted to order everything to try. It all look so enticing somehow.  Well, I'm sure to visit again. You can stay up to date by liking My Tasting Outloud Facebook

Click to view some of the menu
They have a variety of sauces and condiments and you can choose croissants if you do not want bread. There are other pastries to add on as well.
Turkey wrap

Time for my coffee, ahh...irish cream coffee! Oh divine, a small one sufficed though they also sell big one for RM8.50. Love it!

Irish Cream Coffee - RM7.50

Carrot and Orange Booster - Rm9.50

Soon there will be OBrien's membership  offered to customer. As of my last visit, it has not been launched yet. So stay tune!

Yummy Cuisine Sg Ara [ Invited Review ]

This is a place you would like to return often to when you are at that area in Bayan Lepas.  First of all, the food is great and fast. I have been there a number of times however this time the proprietor May invited some of us to taste some of her best selections. I did a post on my last quickie meal at Yummy - yummy-cuisine-sungai-ara-penang, some of what i like as well especially the belacan chicken.

We had lots of laughs and even made new friends with the next table and of course our individual taste comments were one of our main topics over the lunch table. We already had lots of food in the morning yet this lunch could still spur us on so my write up is based on all the talks we had that day.
The entry to Yummy Cuisine. It is just a road away from KFC.
Bamboo prawns is delicious beyond compare. Fresh big prawns covered with its gravy that just speaks of alluring Malaysian taste yet not too spicy for the spicy stricken people. I have also tasted their butter prawns last year and it was very appetizing as well. Oh yes, so is the assam prawns and like I said I have been here a number of occasions.
Bamboo Prawns ( Tekong Haei - Hokkien translation)
Here we have Kuchai Pia and I think in English the vegetable is a sort of chives based on my google research. This is something different and with its crisps, you can just dip into the chili sauce and eat it on its own.
Chives Biscuit (Kuchai Pia - hokkien translation)
Another deep fried dish tofu , soft on the inside, which also goes well with chili sauce.
Chiau Pai Tau Fu
Now here comes the fishes, this nyonya fish has a unique taste of different spices and with its tinge of sourness, the whole combination was superb. Love it! And May said it is called 'Ikan Senangin' in malay.
Nyonya Fish

This Tippan fish is spicier than the Nyonya fish and its crispy sides are nice to chew on and I love that they included one of my favourite vegetable- 'kacang botol' in English it is called winged bean which i read it is good for reducing high blood pressure and high cholesterol. The whole dish just whets my appetite.

Tippan(hot pan) Fish
Then we had the pork dish and though it looks dry but the meat is tender and nice. Goes well with all the fishes. One of my friend enjoyed this very much, and it is something she used to eat during her growing up years.
Lamju Bak - Pork dish

Yummy Cuisine, Sungai Ara, Penang

This was a quick lunch after an early morning outing and dropping a friend off at the airport. We were being indecisive about lunch places so we decided to drop in Yummy Cuisine after awhile. I have been there a few times but it's been awhile since my last visit. It's interesting that they do not have a menu presented to you but I suppose who needs it when the lady boss can recommend pretty good stuff according to your liking. So this is what we had, simple scrumptious glorious food. Love all to bits.
Prices are quite reasonable, some might be a bit wee high but it is not uncommon. Free Wifi is provided and I observed that alot of working people comes for lunch here. They served all types of rice sets and mee so I believe it is convenient for some working people.
The place is cosy and cooling though there are no air conditions but with sufficient strong fans thank goodness. Try it if you are around the area and want some chinese dishes. Map provided below.

78 Cafe at Penang Street

Where is 78 Cafe? Before this, I would tell you I'm clueless. I seldom eat around here, but during CNY we were looking for hawkers that might be open, so Mom suggested we come here for its curry mee. Have a look.

Nutmeg & Lo Han Kuo - RM 1.50 each
The nutmeg drink is so refreshing and quenching, I have never tasted any better nutmeg drink than this. If you have, please let me know. They give you two of its fruit in it as well. The homemade drink is divine. Even the Lo Han Kuo is nice too. The sweetness tasted natural and leaves you wanting more.
Curry Mee
The curry mee at Poly Cafe, Pulau Tikus has closed down and that was one of my favourite but now I have found another. :)
Char Koay Teow
Char Koay Teow was not too oily however I should have asked for more chili. Overall, I considered it very nice. I enjoyed it.
The variety of food they have shown on the wall.
Lots of traffic
Just photos of some of the other stalls.

Kwai Lock Coffee Shop, Pulau Tikus, Penang

Just two days after Christmas and I thought the hustle and bustle of the markets and food places would have reduced. Looks like whoever is back in Penang or visiting Penang is out for the best of the food paradise. No doubt, we have lots of variety here.
Here we are strolling around Pulau Tikus market and soon my sister will head over for her favourite Chee Cheong Fun at Kwai Lock Coffee shop. That morning, the coffee shop was packed. It was a chore to even find a chair after securing a table which took awhile. I was left without a chair and I went to asked the cashier man and he said "bo liau" (no more). I suppose the coffee shop was not prepared for the crowd. Finally, I did get to sit. No worries, such things will never affect my taste buds.

Curry Mee
I took a bit of my sister's Curry Mee and the sweetness of the soup is just nice. I don't like it if the soup is too sweet or too mild. Something in between suits me. However, I preferred the Sar Hor Fun that came with generous portions of meat and I enjoyed the taste when I scoop each of everything and eating it altogether.
Sar Hor Fun without egg
Neslo(combination of Nescafe and Milo) & Milo. Thick and nice.
Packets of Chee Cheong Fun
I wondered, how many of you would pack Penang hawker food back to KL? I know my sister does and she bought around 10 packets of chee cheong fun and this was not her first time. It would vary from 10 packets to 30 packets, I lost count. By the way, the Chee Cheong Fun stall that she likes is the one nearest to the Police station as there are two stalls selling at Kwai Lock Coffee Shop. That's not all she packed back, later she also 'tapau' Mee Goreng at along Gurney Drive. (pictures not provided). All this to be shared with her KL friends.
