Pun Chun Noodle House, Shah Alam, KL

After a long bus ride, waking up the next morning with a delicious meal is a great start up of the day. We were driven to this restaurant and thanks to my friend's sister in law's nice review of the place, we were ready to eat! Here we are at Pun Chun Noodle House and taking the usual orders around here. I like the sauce especially in the wanton mee and the soup of the duck drumstick is so refreshing that makes you want more. I also like the sugar cane with barley drink, excellent! To view more of their food and details, please refer to the information at the bottom. As I just read in their blog, another branch is opening at Ara Damansara. Happy eating!

Cheers Restaurant & Bierhaus

Newly opened Cheers, about a month old.

I love words and what caught my attention are all the frames of pictures with positive quotes that are found in this restaurant. Especially when I head upstairs (non-smoking section), there are so many of them and look at the cowboy hat on the wall lamp, a creative idea to make it dimmer and trendy.

My eyes caught sight of the balcony and the trees at the surroundings. Makes me feel I'm in another country and it'd be really nice to have a drink here on a breezy night. Well, time for the food.

We ordered the signature dishes and here is scallopy chicken, a grilled then baked chicken chop. A unique taste apart from most chicken chops I have ever tasted. It is topped with scallops and covered with orange mandarin sauce. Superb combination.

Scallopy Chicken - RM 33.80
My favourite among all is the King Ribs because of its succulent, fleshy meat. It was easy to cut and I do not remember encountering difficult tendons which i normally do elsewhere. Its fusion between oriental and western BBQ sauce brings out a pleasant taste as BBQ sauce alone usually taste close to a tomato paste. And I'm not a fan of BBQ sauce and am pretty particular with it. I do fancy the sweet mashed potato as well, both served with the King Ribs and Scallopy Chicken.
King Ribs - RM31.80
My first time having a seafood burger, more like having a bite on it. My friend was in the mood for burger and she enjoyed this to her very last bite including the fries. If you are wondering what type of seafood it has all packed in, let me write it out loud :- minced prawn, salmon, dory and scallop. Try it!

Homemade Seafood Burger - RM 25.80
Cake of The Day (Cotton Cheese Cake with ice cream) - RM 10.80
Feasting!!!
Served by very friendly servers with Mun, the lady manager 2nd from the right
For those who are dining would go on the upper level and the drinkers will stay down at the bar and if you would like a game of darts, it is on the left as you walk through the door. There are also ample parking space and a private room that customers can use for celebrations and etc.

Not bad eh..

Chatime, Gurney Plaza, Penang

Chatime has been a hit with the public for how long I cannot recall but I have no particular desire of trying the drink with jelly balls inside. I just don’t get it. Why are people lining up in long queues for it or what is so great about it? I drank once but it was not from Chatime, it tasted very normal to me with the jelly or as referred to as pearls. The ravings soon got its stint on me and the day Chatime opened in Gurney Plaza, one of my frequent shopping complexes, I decided to try it. We bought two flavours to compare, one was on the recommended list and the other is a new flavour.
I called on my friends to model with the drinks.
Top:Taiwan Mango Juice, Bottom: Banana Choco Smoothie(new flavour)

My verdict between the two is mango flavour, it tasted real good together with the pearls. They are additional perks of flavour. As for banana choco , I needed time to acquire the taste but it ain’t so bad.Mango cost RM6.90 inclusive of RM 1 for the pearls, Banana choco smoothie is RM12.90 additional RM1 for the pearls.
I read in Timothy Tiah's blog on how Chatime started so here it is:
The story goes that this guy’s father asked him what he wanted to do. So he said “Give me a million bucks and I’ll grow it for you”.
The father did… and so he went for a holiday in Taiwan and visited this franchise exhibition. That was the first time he heard about Cha Time and he decided to bring the franchise to Malaysia. He came back and started 2 shops and within a month the franchise in Malaysia has grown to over 25 shops. Some of the shops are owned by him and some, by other franchisees.

King of Fruits ~ Durians

Durians have a thorny reputation and my analysis is that it gives some people a pain in a neck because of its unique taste or smell but to most, a thorn among the durian hunters. Some westerners are known to be repulsive of its taste and may find the smell a prick.  To our surprise, some are even drawn to it. It is definitely an acquired taste. My choice will be the sweet ones though a slight bitter doesn’t hurt. I was and have not been a fan of opening the durian but normally those who delight in the painful pleasures have a huge love for it. Alright, it’s not that bad once you get the art of knowing where to stick the knife and pry it open.
‘Ask and you will receive’ truly happened in the most simplest and unexpected manner. My friends and I were driving around a township that was rather quiet one morning, ranting in wishful thinking of having a delicious durian feast after our breakfast. Then there was a man on a bike with tons of durians, we stopped to ask if we can buy from him, he said "No, these are to be delivered elsewhere." After a few exchanges of humor between my friend and the man, suddenly he decides to give not one but two durians free of charge. All we can say is thank you!! He didn’t want to sell but he gave us two durians, what are the odds?
Here are our blessings. I know I have a wide spectrum of readers, from all over the world and so here is a little education(which I hope it helps) ~ this is the way to open the durian.

The Durians

Using a good small knife will do. Hold where it gives you a good grip.

Pry it open with all your strength.
Ta da! Open any layers you can get your hands on. Oops, an accidental cut through the seed.

Finished! Satisfied! :)

Take a look at a visit I made with my friends to Balik Pulau Durian Farm.

Todays Special: Healthy Meal Plans by Carolyn Knight

Today Tasting Out Loud will take a different route, a road less travelled by food bloggers/hunters. I am glad to feature a guest blogger who shares with us her creative ideas on eating healthy meals. As much as all of us love to eat, we do need to take care of our body. Deprivation is not the way, but ,making good choices at the right time will help us enjoy our days longer. There is a time to enjoy your favourite foods in so many places while other times we need to take things into our own hands. I hope you enjoy this post as much as I do. Thanks Carolyn! ~ Sue

Healthy Meal Plans for the Foodie Turned Health Freak
by Carolyn Knight

If you want to live a healthier, longer life, you’d better start eating nutritious foods and staying away from foods with tons of fat. But every time you go on a diet you long for those delicious meals, those glorious platters, those rich flavors. Guess what? You don’t have to deprive your choosy palate of its favorite foods. With healthy meal plans you outline every week, you can continue having nutritious and delicious meals regularly.

Lots of means are available in order for you to create healthy yet appetizing meals; being a chef or having plenty of time is not a requirement. Follow these steps to assembling easy, quick, and nutrient-rich meals.

1.    Achieve Balanced Meals

When you prepare meals, make sure that you include a variety of foods such as grains, fruits, veggies, dairy, and protein. Even though you adore steak and fries, you should not eat such meals excessively. Just 2-3 oz. of steak is a sufficient amount to maintain energy and healthy, caloric intake. And what about the fries? Lots of fats, I’d say. You are much better off ditching fatty fries with whole grain pasta, instead. For a side dish, try opting for some green beans, enhanced with parsley, shallots, clove garlic, bit of salt, couple drops of olive oil, and ground black pepper.

2.   Know the Correct Food Portions

If you hear your stomach growl when you spy someone eating your favorite cheesecake, you shouldn’t simply watch enviously, depriving yourself of your craving. Why not indulge, within reason? You can always just cut your serving size in half, thereby minimizing the amount of calories. Try also taking little bites because, according to American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, chewing food slowly will also lessen your intake of food.

There are predetermined, healthy portion sizes for every food group. Keeping to these can help you control your food intake and balance your meals more correctly.

3.   Get in the Kitchen

There are plenty of folks who subscribe to the phrase “Eat to lose weight.” However, many people are now thinking that a more apt way to lose weight is to simply get i the kitchen. And why not? It makes sense. When you do the preparation of the meal yourself, you will be in a better position to make certain that everything you put the meal is proportional and healthy. You can also avoid excess oil, butter and fats are kept out.

If it is part of your family tradition to eat dinner out on the weekend, maybe it’s time to modify your former habits. Dining in is less costly and healthier! To make old dishes interesting, add new colors and flavors into the mix. Experiment with spices, seasonings, vegetables, and fruits. The deep purple eggplant is the key ingredient in this tempting eggplant parmigiana and there’s also the Halibut Veracruz for your avocado. These recipes are not only simple, they are quick to make and would surely make your family’s mouth water.

So, ready to start cooking healthy? Just follow these uncomplicated healthy meal plans and you’ll soon be eating healthy, while still enjoying your love of good food.
