Buffet lunch at Evergreen Laurel Hotel, Penang

This post is actually a continuation from my Sue-World blog post Wong Shuenda with Trinity College London. I'm not doing a food review but sharing what I had in a buffet at Evergreen Laurel Hotel when I was there for a teachers seminar. This is the start of my lunch meal, fruit first then salad. A good start as the salad was fresh, love the alfalfas.
Fruit & Salad - for starters
Then here comes my main meal. It was alright overall, nothing spectacular. I believe I enjoyed my salad and dessert the most.

Here it is, my long awaiting desserts. I only remembered one type of cake I do not like , other than that, all's great. Added vanilla ice cream to my double moist chocolate cake(that was the best).

Like I said, love the salad, so I returned with more of it, adding some meat to it too. The latte was by the way excellent too.

the dessert table.

Check out more on their buffets OR check out on the accomodation if you want to visit Penang. It's pretty reasonable and you will have a great seaview too:) ~ http://www.evergreenhotel.net/

Full Of Beans (Handcrafted Specialty Coffee),Penang

Coffee is almost everyone's cup of tea. It is mine as well but I'm not addicted to it.  I have come to acquire a taste for coffee since I started working in 'American Dream Cafe' in One Stop, Penang (no longer in operation) when I was in secondary school(high school). My ex-boss will bring out this scientific looking thing that drips coffee from a rounded cylinder with coffee beans inside. Starbucks coffee beans was what he was serving certain customers who has a pleasure of a good brewed coffee. No matter where you are in the world, you will have no problem finding a coffee shop right at the streets or an air conditioned cafes or Starbucks.

Have an experience of handcrafted specialty coffee at Full of Beans at Straits Quay , Penang. Recently I went to have a cup of coffee, Brazillian Santos (RM19) is what I had. A complimentary drink actually. Well, the barista was carefully concocting my brew with all the laboratory look-alike equipment, forgive me on the scientific terms because it all just reminds me of my school science lab. What's nice about Brazillian Santos is firstly it's not bitter without sugar however with a cube of sugar that was given, it was more enjoyable to drink. I'm truly a novice all these years when it comes to understanding the different coffee types. I have seen various ways people make coffee (besides the 3 in 1 packets ofcourse) and how they know what temperature would make a good coffee, what equipment to brew different types of coffee beans yet there is a desire to know more. Well I think it would be great to go for the coffee tasting at Full of Beans. See more information at the last picture.

Noor Bee Nasi Melayu(Curry Fish Head)- Tanjung Tokong, Penang

It's been awhile since I came back here but I do enjoy their food. Years ago I've been introduced to this place with lots of delicious varieties and their specialty, curry fish head. It's a wonder where you can find good food at a flat where stall sign cannot be seen unless you are visiting someone there. If you want to beat the crowd, a good time to go is in the morning before 12pm. I went on one Thursday morning, right after visiting a friend with a broken ankle.

Love those curries!
It is welcoming when you have friendly service, like this proprietor here. He is all smiles with a great sense of humor.

Curry Fish Head

Their signature dish , the curry fish head is meaty and the curry is not thick but tasty with very light sweetness. I 'drowned' my whole plate of rice with the curry. A bit of exaggeration there but its close. The curry fish head ranges from RM 25 - RM 30+. Overall pricing is reasonable for the dishes.

Ah.. the 'kopi tarik' is a superb complement bringing it to a complete perfect lunch.

KimChi BBQ Korean Restaurant, Tanjung Bungah, Penang

A great recommendation from a friend who had frequent this restaurant months ago. So curious what's good about this place, a trip there was made. True enough the food is good, stuffed up and satisfied!
Here it is... KimChi BBQ Korean Restaurant
No 2C, Jalan Tanjung Bungah ( Opposite Copthorne Hotel)

Contact No: 04-8997032

Looking through the lunch menu, very reasonably priced. The interior has its own uniqueness, giving a Korean home feel or at least that was the impression I felt when I sat down.
Love the tea! Can't help but ask for more refills :)
First they serve the "banchan" , an assortment of small dishes of kimchi such as beansprouts, tofu, fishcakes and etc. The chili was one of the highlight of the meal too.

I like this dish and the spicy sauce is not all that spicy. It's very tasty coupled with the side dishes and the soup. An enjoyable meal it became.

Jaeyuk Dupbob - pan boiled pork mixed with spicy sauce and vegetables - RM15
This is another choice I would pick for my next lunch menu. Well seasoned and the beef is tender, scrumptiously me :)
Bulgogi Bupbob - MIxed rice with seasoned beef and various ingredients - RM 15

This hot pot was not my fancy, I felt the rice was a little clammy though as a whole it was not too bad. Preference of others, but not mine. Look at that steam, 'hotness'!
Bibimbob - Mixed Rice with Beef & Vegetables - RM 17
By the time we started this dish, we took awhile to finish as our stomach couldn't withstand much anymore. In the end we did do justice to the food, we pack remains and take away. Hahaha...
Boiled Pork Leg - RM 30 (small)
This is the nice Korean lady boss who served us and was very open to let us take her picture.

Hop on to http://kimchikoreanrestaurant.blogspot.com/ for more viewing of the food. It's also a great place to hang out and enjoy a good meal. I really don't mind Korean food as my daily lunch meals. Healthy and tasty.

China House in Penang

Another heritage building in the heart of Penang island stands China House, a cafe, art gallery and theatre owned by Narelle. Name is all I know and have yet to meet in person. This is a unique building, 3 heritage buildings, linked by an open air courtyard for customers to explore, enjoy and be entertained. The Kopi C. Espresso serves food and drinks opens for breakfast, lunch and dinner.I went with my friends during lunch and we knew the servings will be big for us so we ordered two plates of sandwiches and dessert with coffee. I wanted to try something different than the one I had when they were at Stewart Lane called Kopicine then. All in all, though the price is a bit wee high, the food is good!
Roast Sliced Beef Sandwich - RM 30
Chicken Schnitzel Sandwich - RM 30
Both the sandwich is delicious in its own special way. The sliced beef was tender and both had avocado in it, and it was one of the best sandwich I've tasted. Definitely filled up my tummy yet enough for me to enjoy my tiramisu and coffee. Tiramisu was lovely, with the combination of nuts and liquor. I would not have finished the sandwich plate on my own but maybe some of you can?
Iced Chocolate Vanilla - RM 17, Cafe Latte - RM 10
Tiramisu - RM 12
Entering into the courtyard, and The Canteen is the other end.
The dark canteen as it was closed in the afternoon
There will be different bands or performers to grace the stage in The Canteen every week, stay up to date at their facebook ChinaHouse page.

Beach St. Bakery sells homemade cakes and pies etc. The quiche is absolutely delicious.
Only RM 8.

There is the Vine and Single at the top left with an assortment of good fresh wines.  The Art Space is a gallery displaying exhibitions of 'I'm not sure who' but there are some interesting pieces which I will leave the observations to you. So many things to see and learn about this place.
