Soul Kitchen Trattoria, Penang

A nice cosy little place situated right in middle of georgetown at Muntri Street is a trattoria called Soul Kitchen .Specialized in Italian food owned by a Malaysian-German couple - Michele and Tonio. This is my first time in the Green House pre-war house. I attended a birthday celebration and the evening was filled with great food and company.

My favourite was particularly spaghetti Sopranos, the sauce that comes with it including the ham and generous helping of sprinkled cheese really satisfy the tummy and if I remember right, it was the special of the day. It was so delightful that we ordered another to share just to have more of it.
The only type of tiramisu I like to have is Italian style and this place is definitely the place to go to for tiramisu. The difference with some other I have tried in Italian restaurants is that it has the presence of liquor in it. I would definitely recommend the tiramisu. It's RM 10 per piece which is reasonable. And these are the selections we had for the night!

Spaghetti Carbonara - RM 17

Lasagne
Stone Oven Pizza - RM 14

As you can see below, the tiramisu is not the typical square shaped which cost RM10 per iece. This is specially ordered from Soul Kitchen for the birthday baby. Nicely done, Tonio!

Jumbo Delicious at Sungai Ara, Penang

JUMBO here we come! Been here a few times before when it first opened but here is the first time blogging about it. It seems pretty happening during dinnertime but we were blessed with one table left for us who were famished. My camera was left at home but thanks to JL again for the photos!:)
We made our orders, the servers were polite so far and customer centred, excellent!Ordered a jug of orange juice and it fills the most 4 glasses.

Orange Juice - RM 4.90 per jug
These garlic buns were hot! One of our favourite and it comes with the meals ordered and a small plate of salad. Look at her... she loves the buns and actually ask for more.

It was just after badminton so I did not want to waste the calories lost during the game so I ordered Caesar Salad. It has a bit of strips of chicken and basically veg with sprinkled cheese.
Chicken Caesar Salad - RM 7.90
The lamb was huge, I know I would need to be starving to eat the whole plate of it. With the sauce and mint, it tasted really good. Love the snow peas, perfect veg combination for me.
Grilled Lamb Loin - RM 18.90
Next came seabass and the sauce is so attractive by taste, it makes you want more of it. And you will probably wish there was more seabass to go with it. I am not sure what you called those sticks around it but it's nice to munch on than the usual fries.
Pan Grilled Seabass - RM 16.90

Do you like cornflakes? If you say yes, then try the cornflakes chicken, it is delicious. It comes with potato wedges as well as the snow peas and carrots.
Jumbo Cornflakes Chicken - RM 12.90
Jumbo serviettes with its Jumbo logo
Last but not least, let me welcome the owners of Jumbo to the blog. We had the priviledge of meeting a bubbly group of people.
What's great is that no taxes charged. How cool is that?
Many thanks to Jumbo management for the complimentary ice kacang with ice cream. It was supreme! A place I would dine in when I'm around the area.

Tai Fuu Chinese Restaurant, Bayan Lepas , Penang

*Please be informed that this restaurant is no longer in operation
How many of you in Penang have been to this place? It's a simple looking restaurant that serves tasty food(air condition included). Do ask the chef on his specialties as some dishes are not listed down in the menu. Many might not be attracted by the interior but once you give it a try, you wouldn't mind going again. So friends, if you work in Bayan Lepas, along Maybank and Jaya Catering. Try this place out. Details are at the bottom of the post.
First, they will serve you with their complimentary soup. The salad prawn is just right with fresh cut lettuce but I would normally have with less thousand island.
Siao Pai Chai - RM 6.00

Marmite Chicken - RM 8.00

Fu Yong Tan - RM 8.00

Salad Prawn - RM 12.00
These are specialties(shown below) that are not served everyday but most days, so enquire about it. The sauce is really nice that goes with the chicken and everything else. i do not have the pricing as it was on a different occasion (birthday celebration) ordered by someone else. Yes, you can make reservations for special occasions and during Chinese New Year they have a different menu. Pictures below are courtesy of my friend JL! You can visit one of her posts on food http://uniqueyenmei.blogspot.com/2010/12/shabu-shabu-at-lolipot.html. Many Thanks!

For curry lovers, do try the Indonesian Curry Prawn. I love to flood my rice with the curry and enjoy my scrumptious prawn. It is served with ladies fingers as well.

Little Cottage at Gottlieb Road , Penang

Little Cottage 2 is situated at 'The Waterfall' near Penang Botanical and YouthPark is nearby. Well, if there is a no 2, there is a no 1 like any movie sequels and that Little Cottage 1 is located at Burmah Road. For more information, go to Little Cottage Cafe
Celery Soup - Soup Of The Day
This is a place to go if you have a low budget with a craving for western food or italian food. The set lunches comprised of soup of the day, main meal, coffee/tea and dessert of the day. The soup of the day for me that day was celery soup. I hate celery but the soup turned out pleasant andI'm proud to say I finished it to the last drop.
Make your choice! Click on the picture.

Monte Cristo is as common as any chicken chop out there however if you are not sure what to order, this is not a bad choice . Generally speaking for all the sets with the mash potatoes, it's lousy. I left half of mine but if I did not bother about wasting food, I won't even take a second bite. For me, the texture was rough and does not melt in my mouth the way I like it.
Monte Cristo Chicken - RM 19.90 Set Lunch
The steak was cooked medium to well done as requested. It turned out pretty good as it was tender and juicy and tasted not too bad with its black pepper sauce. It was worth the price paid.
Minute Ribeye Steak - RM19.90 Set Lunch
As for the almond fish, I love the tartar sauce, makes the whole fish experience a memorable one :). Overall, it is 6 over 10 rating.
Grill Almond Fish - RM15.90 Set Lunch
This cute little thing, size of a salt and pepper bottle is honeydew jelly. Not too sweet, just the right portion included in the set(might be too little for some.)  I like!
Honeydew Jelly
A cosy quiet ambience for friends to have a good chat over food.

Carpenter's Street,Bayan Baru,Penang

Carpenter Street Cafe, named after a famous Chinatown street in Kuching Sarawak. Sarawak is famous for its Kolomee and my friend who went to KuchingLand months ago raved about Kolomee, eating for her breakfast, lunch and dinner. So when I went in to this Carpenter's Street Cafe, when I saw Kolomee, I ordered it. Three menus to looked at. Click for a bigger thumbnail.
Menus
Kolomee turned out not too bad, like the sauce but dislike the fact that there is so much mee and little meat. I prefer a low carb meal. Overall it's good!
Sarawak Kolomee - RM5.90
Ka Chang Ma Chicken Soup as I've read in other food review that its a meal for mothers after giving birth. A guy friend ordered it and instead of informing him how the taste is or the what's the story behind this dish, the waitresses giggled and whispered at the counter. I took one sip of the soup n nearly died *blek! I would only recommend to those who wouldn't mind paying for the sake of trying it out or unless you have a 'kick' for really herbalish stuff. And the chicken is also soaked in that herbal ingredients.
Ka Chang Ma Chicken with Rice - RM9.90
The laksa is not as good as Penang Laksa we get out there, but neither is it all that bad. It's a taste to acquire. So to each it's own.
Sarawak Laksa - RM 7.90
This is Carpenter Street and the details below. I felt weird that the cashier cum manager did not give a receipt. If i'm not wrong, i thought I heard them saying "save paper". Mmmm...is that ethical?
