Hawkers at Charlie,Mount Erskine

When you ask Penangnites about Charlie area at Mount Erskine, they would most likely know where to point you the directions. As you drive along the Mount Erskine road, you will be able to see this red sign with the word CHARLIE on it. I remembered having my Accounts tuition here years ago. Here's where many delicious hawker foods assemble in one small place. With my sister's suggestion one early lunchtime, we managed to avoid the oncoming crowds and had a comfortable parking and table to eat. We enjoyed all that we ordered and also 'tapau' few packets of Bee Ko Moi and Gandum.
Char Koay Teow - the more chili and kuchai the better.
Nonya Laksa
The man speaks good hokkien. Kudos to him!
Mee Goreng
Lots of variety. I like the Bee Ko Moi.
The usual bustle around here. Picture taken after 12pm.

My Christmas Eve Dinner

My family has a tradition to have a get together Christmas Eve dinner every year. First we will have our traditional Christmas dinner menu which you will see later then we will open our presents together as well. This is the first year we are having at my sister's new place and it is a very nice home indeed. Let's get down to the food, shall we?
Introducing to you Gammom Ham, and this ham is so delicious when you cover it with the apple sauce.
Gammom Ham
No turkey for us this year. However, we had the Roast Lamb which its meat was tender and juicy but sad to say the sauce didn't quite enhanced its taste as expected.
Love this garlic bread with the garlic fillings as shown on the next picture. Each bite squeezes its garlic filling in my mouth and I could go on and on but I didn't want to stuff myself with too much carbs so I stopped at the 3rd piece.
Garlic Bread (Garlic / Mushroom filling)
Yum..are you salivating yet...cos I am. Please get me one, sis!
Oh my, that's a lot of sausages to consume. Glad the kids were able to help us out a little.
Mushroom and Chicken Sausage
It is not usual to have roti jala in a Christmas menu, but ours do and its spicy and sweet! Chicken was sort of small in size for the money we paid for but the taste is pretty good.
30 pieces
Salad
We almost did without salad because we already had so much food but can't go on without the greens so we just bought it off at Cold Storage to add to the list. We never have a dinner like this without wine. I only managed to capture the bottle of our dessert wine, a wine that goes after food. Before this we had another wine that goes with meat, and basically that's all the drink we had, wine. This German wine is sweet with honey, goes better on the rocks.

Bar.B.Q Plaza at Gurney Plaza

Bar B Q plaza is said to be a Self-Cooking Mongolia-Japanese Style Barbecue Restaurant first started in Central Ladprao and now after so many subsequent branches, it has now landed in Gurney Plaza (LG near food court). This is my first time stepping into it after strolling pass numerous times. It was a birthday lunch celebrated for Yong Anne (see below).
Look at the choices!
The start of our self cooking experience.

There were lots of white cabbages left and we dump it all in for the finishing. I love the barbeque sauce that goes with everything. It's a great place for families and friends to have a meal over cooking and chit chat away without a care of the time. The rest is upon your own preferences and discretion of taste.

Here is the birthday girl with a cute bunny cake from Jenny cakehouse.

Thank God It's Friday at Queensbay,Penang

Celebrating birthday at TGIF is never a dull one as most of you would know. This day, we started out with an appetizer and it sure does whet a hungry person's appetite. We know the portions are usually big so we shared out the main dishes.
Parmesan Crusted Chicken Quesadillas - RM20.90
The New York strip we ordered is medium well and as expected, it was tender and well cooked. The cheddar cheese melted into the steak and adds its flavour to its utmost taste.
New York Strip with broccoli, cheddar cheese and mashed potatoes - RM 50.90
Love the salmon juiced up in its Tennessee sauce. If you like sweetness to your sauce, this could be your choice of meal.
Tennessee Salmon with Tennessee sauce - RM42.90
 Strawberry Surprise & Ice Coffee RM8.50 & RM9.50

TGIF staff singing their song for the birthday girl and before the birthday girl can have her special icecream, she had to stand up on the chair and sing/say speech and being very sporting, my friend did it(while some I know dare not do in the past :P). We have two curious little onlookers watching my friend blow the candle from where she sat. Finally we all had a taste of the birthday ice cream, it was tantalizing by sight and scrumptious by taste. mmm..mm..
Happy Birthday, Charlene!

Korean Home Cooked Meal

Koreans are known to be slim and I do believe it. Well this is a typical meal Jon and his family has back home in Korea and they made for us one Friday night. We had the local Satay as well but my taste buds were so drawn to the Korean food, I didn't touch the Satay  that night.
Kimchi, eggs,chili,vegetables(chinese cabbage,carrots)
Sweet potatoes and behind are Satay from Sg Nibung
One way to eat it! Sweet potato as the base and with kimchi, sauce on it.
The Korean ~ Jon mixing it with mee(2nd way)
I embraced both ways, I love the sweet, sour, spicy mix taste and I wouldn't mind having this meal 3 times a week. Simply delicious and healthy compared to hawker foods and fast foods. Marvelous! Thanks Jon and Annie :) I got to find out their Korean names. Soon.....

Delicious at Straits Quay, Penang

Where are you , Delicious? Oh the nice blue sky through the windows.
Too late for breakfast, too early for lunch, so we wandered all around Straits Quay this one sunny morning. Then we finally reached this nice white looking place, its theme like a snow white story. Bluish bird cages which are actually lamps on its ceiling, a well sculpted tree trunk right in the middle, nice arrangements of chairs and tables all around. We were the first customers of the day. The main dishes that we have chosen are quite good, but there are many more choices to choose from the menu.

My Home Style, Tanjung Bungah, Penang

My Home Style Restaurant was opened this year and this was my first time. Situated at a quiet residential area opposite a field, this was not easy to find unless you know Tanjung Bungah well. This area is quite new to me though I have cycled most parts of Tanjung Bungah  during my childhood days. Fret not, I have the map for you right at the bottom.
My sister has been there for three times already so I was thinking the food must be good. So she went ahead with the orders quickly and what i fancy about this place is the arrival time of the food was ideal. After a few chats and before you know it, they are laid out before you.

Wheatgrass Honey  (I love it)

Chicken dish (Pek Cham Ke)
Siakap fish curry- oooh..the taste and the thickness of the gravy was just right.
Bitter Gourd with Egg - I do not particularly like bitter gourd but I kind of like this. The blend of the bitter gourd, eggs and its sauce makes me forget I am eating bitter gourd.:)
French beans with dried shrimps

Another dish to try is Zeng Kong Pork, it was a tasty dish unfortunately the picture was lost in motion, I can't express how disappointed I am.

Our total bill came up to around RM120 inclusive of drinks and rice. They have 3 categories which is small, medium and large with their prices accordingly. The receipt was not itemized and we were in a hurry to go off that I was not able to confirm the names of these dishes. Coincidentally my sister has no recollection either. Overall, the pricing is reasonable and the taste is good. No air-conditioning but its comfortable.
